The
first Successful International Official Expedition to Mt. Thingchinkhang (6010 meters) in Sikkim
Himalaya.
With the recent official opening of five Alpine peaks in
Sikkim, Yak and Yeti
Travels and Expeditions has made a successful expedition to Mt.
Thingchinkhang (6010 mtrs) with climbers from
Spain, Germany and India
on
19th
October 2006.
God blessed the expedition with good weather on 19th
October 06’ when the summit was reached at 11:00 a.m by three Germans,
- Mr. Schmid Gerald Anton, Mr. DR Lehrer Florian and Mr. Mayer Gerhard and
three climbing guides- Mr. Nima Sherpa, Mr. Lakpa Sherpa, Mr. Ang Kami
Sherpa and Liasion officer- Mr. Dhan Bahadur Chettri (the guide of the
company) deputed by Home Department. |

The other team members who contributed to the success were Mr.Tashi Sherpa, technical advisor , Mr.Prem Tamang , high altitude cook ,
Mr.Zangpo Sherpa , climbing sherpa , Mr. Kharka Bahadur Chauhan , sardar of
porters the rest of porters and yaks. |

The two Spanish gentlemen Mr. Jesus Maria Garcia
Armendariz & Mr. Carmelo Zabalza Dallo greatly contributed
to the success of the expedition by opening the route and establishing the
advance camps.
The expedition was planned by Satish Bardewa, CEO of Yak and
Yeti Travels and Expeditions - a qualified mountaineer from Himalayan
Mountaineering Institute and Indian Mountaineering Foundation who has
accomplished nine major expeditions in Indian Himalayas as the National
representative to the foreign expeditions. The climbing route was planned
with two high altitude camps at 16,000 feet,2000 feet above ABC (advance
base camp) in dome tents with high altitude food, stove burners and all
technical equipments. The company ensured proper selection of the
mountaineering equipment, support team, high altitude cook (Mr. Prem
Tamang) and maintaining high safety standards for all climbers.
The company has been promoting adventure tourism on the guidelines of “Code
of Conduct of Eco tourism in
Sikkim” formulated by the Travel Agents’ Association of Sikkim.
The expedition ensured that the mountain was left pristine and all non
bio -degradable items were brought back and disposed.
All major group equipment
was supplied by organizer consisting of carabiners, ice bars, dead-man,
climbing ropes, Ice axe, ascenders, descenders, crampons etc. of
International climbing standards. The vertical climb of more than 90 degrees
was negotiated on fixed ropes and ice screws as per the plan. |
